NOVA students are expected to dress tastefully, modestly and in a manner which is appropriate for a learning environment. The Dean of Students reserves the right to make the final decision regarding the appropriateness of a student’s dress.
• Tube tops, halter tops or spaghetti strap tops are allowed ONLY if they are layered with a shirt with sleeves
• No visible midriff or underwear
• Shorts, skirts and dresses must reach the top of the knee
• Pants and jeans must be fitted and may not have holes, or rips, be “distressed”, “destroyed”, or “torn”.
• Shoes must be worn at all times. In the interest of safety NOVA recommends that flip-flops and open-toed shoes not be worn
• Clothing or accessories may not depict drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcohol, offensive/obscene pictures or language, hate speech or “gang” attire
• While hats, hoods, beanies and other head attire are permitted, they are not permitted in the classroom

Students who are not appropriately dressed will be:
• given the opportunity to call home for a change of clothing,
• allowed to change into appropriate PE clothing for the day, or
• will be loaned a shirt and pair of leggings from the office.

The dress code applies both in the classroom and on the yard

A new California school entry law requires all students entering grades, 7,8,9,10,11, and 12th in the coming school year (2011-2012) to show proof of a pertussis booster vaccination before starting school. Proof of the Tdap vaccine is required by August 15, 2011 for the Fall of 2011 school term.

For the following school year (2012-2013) and in the future, the law will apply to students entering the 7th grade only.

To satisfy the new requirement, your child needs a Tdap vaccine. This vaccine is important because it protects against 3 diseases, tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (commonly referred to as whooping cough). Your child probably received Tdap as a young child, which protects against the same diseases, but protection wears off over time and it is necessary to get a booster. The new requirement is intended to reduce the spread of pertussis among California's youth. In 2010, California reported its highest number of cases in over 60 years!

To get you child vaccinated, visit their regular health care provider. If you do not have health insurance or a regular health care provider, visit www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/ip or dial the Los Angeles County Information Line at 2-1-1 for referrals to no-cost or low-cost vaccine providers.

NOVA requires proof of vaccination, so remember to obtain proper documentation of the vaccination from your doctor's office.
